Re: Gimme Some Truth!
Dear Mr. Finklestein,
My name is Joseph S. I am 27 years old and am an admitted audiophile. I have and always will love music. For as long as I remember I have always been enamored with records, tapes and CD’s. It is a habit of mine to spend hours in record stores perusing and discovering new music. Still, to this day, nothing compares to the feeling of opening a new LP or CD, checking out the artwork and listening to the album for the first time. It’s a comfort I have not been able to part with in the digital age.
Firstly, I’d like to thank you for producing so many fine albums over the years. I understand that your company and other similar companies are heading into uncharted waters. The traditional form of the album and the way it is distributed is changing rapidly. I can appreciate what it must be like to stare into an uncertain future. I am sympathetic to your situation and hope that it improves. However, an event that took place this afternoon left me disheartened and unconvinced of your efforts.
Today is Friday, October 8, 2010, which is my father’s 59th birthday. We didn’t make a big deal about this birthday; we’ll save that for next year. I decided I would still buy him a little something. As much as I love receiving the gift of music, I love to give the gift of music. This week happened to coincide with the re-release of all the remastered John Lennon albums. This was perfect! I bought my father a copy of Gimme Some Truth. He was delighted. We sat at the dinner table and opened the package for the first time enthusiastically not concealing our anticipation. To both of our dismay, when we reached the Borrowed Time disc, it was empty. This was heartbreaking. We listened to some of the other discs, but the night was tainted.
I am amazed that something so simple as ensuring the disc that I purchased was actually in the casing slipped by those under your employ. I hope this letter reaches someone that can make a difference. With the position your company is in it only makes sense that you begin to focus on adapting to the future and keeping up with the times. However, it’s always best to ensure the basics are taken care of.
I hope my next copy is in tact!

One of your last allies,

J S
